Water Plant Improvements

Water Plant Improvements

Location: Cullowhee, NC wcuwater

Contract Amount:
$404,858

Description of Work:

This project consisted of erecting a pre-engineered metal building to cover a 50 year-old concrete water tank. The building was approximately 6000 SF supported by 5 ft square concrete piers. The site conditions were unique in that rock was encountered; the soil conditions were poor and included a steep embankment on one side of the building all of which made placing the concrete piers difficult. This tank is the University’s primary water source so all work had to be completed while keeping the tank operational.

Over the years the condition of the concrete tank was declining and the university chose to build the enclosure to keep slow the deterioration until the tank can be replaced. This project also included ventilating fans and electrical work. This project is directly similar to the Center Street project in that we demonstrate our ability to perform in difficult conditions and our familiarity with water treatment plants.

Asheville Fire & Rescue Stations #6 & #11

Asheville Fire & Rescue Stations #6 & #11

Location:
Asheville, North Carolina

Contract Amount:
$4,665,294.00

Description of Work:

New Fire Stations #6 and #11. The project consisted of two new fire stations for the City of Asheville of approximately 10,900 square feet each. These fire stations include two apparatus bays each, offices, training rooms, shower facilities, kitchens, and sleep quarters for the fire fighters.

In addition, each station includes offices for two Asheville Police Department sub-stations. Fire Station #6 was later numbered Fire Station #10. Station No. 11 is almost the exact same floor plan as Station No. 10 that was designed at the same time. However due to this station’s residential location, the design team added a pitched roof and a more residential exterior so it would blend into its neighborhood.

Special features of this station include: designed for heavy snow loads, having the ability to rely on auxiliary power in the event of major winter storms, and increased seismic structural strength since Asheville lies on a major fault line.
